Role Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and commercially-minded Legal Counsel to support the platform’s international growth and regulatory compliance efforts. This role sits at the intersection of law, business strategy, and cross-border operations, working closely with local and regional teams to ensure the company scales safely and sustainably across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in ambiguity, translating complex legal frameworks into practical business guidance, and building compliance infrastructure from the ground up in new markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Entry & Regulatory Strategy: Conduct in-depth legal and regulatory research to support the platform’s market expansion and business rollout in target countries. Design compliance frameworks and legal strategies that enable smooth market entry and sustainable operations, providing senior leadership with actionable legal insight to inform business strategy decisions.
- End-to-End Legal Support: Serve as the primary legal point of contact for day-to-day operations in target markets, covering compliance management, corporate governance, entity structuring, licensing, and regulatory communications. Deliver a true one-stop legal service that business teams can rely on without needing to navigate multiple external advisors.
- Crisis & Incident Management: Act as a first responder for emergent and adverse situations, including local employee relations issues, escalated or complex customer complaints, negative public sentiment, media incidents, and other reputational or operational crises. Produce clear legal risk assessments and actionable resolution plans, and lead post-incident reviews to extract lessons learned and strengthen future business processes.
- Regulatory Intelligence & External Relationships: Continuously monitor legislative and regulatory developments across target countries, proactively flagging changes that could impact the business. Own the relationship with, and coordination of, external law firms, regulatory consultants, and other legal partners, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality external support.
- Contract & Documentation Management: Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of legal documents, including commercial partnership agreements, platform terms and rules, vendor contracts, and other business-critical legal instruments, ensuring they are enforceable, risk-balanced, and aligned with company policy.
- Compliance Enablement & Training: Develop internal compliance guidelines, playbooks, and policies tailored to each market’s regulatory environment. Design and deliver compliance training programs and risk-awareness campaigns for business teams, building a strong compliance-first culture across the organization.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law from a well-regarded university; a qualification to practice law (local or international) is a plus.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant legal experience gained at an internet/technology platform, a law firm (corporate, commercial, or regulatory practice), or a multinational corporation.
- Genuine interest in technology, innovation, and the digital economy, with demonstrated experience independently identifying, evaluating, managing, and mitigating legal and compliance risks across multi-country or multi-jurisdictional projects.
- Fluent Chinese language skills, with the ability to use English as a working language for internal and external communication; strong cross-cultural communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- High degree of self-motivation and ownership, strong sense of accountability, excellent collaborative and team-oriented mindset, and the resilience to perform effectively under pressure and tight timelines.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous, cross-border environment, and able to balance legal rigor with commercial pragmatism.
