Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Our client is a New Zealand-based transformer manufacturer with operations across New Zealand, Australia, and the Oceania region. The Indonesia office serves as an important engineering and manufacturing hub, working closely with global engineering teams to deliver high-quality power transformer solutions.
As part of the engineering expansion, our client is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the engineering team and contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of medium power transformer products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design and development of medium power transformers in accordance with customer specifications, international standards, and company requirements.
- Perform transformer electrical calculations including winding design, impedance calculations, losses, temperature rise, short circuit withstand capability, and efficiency optimization.
- Prepare and review transformer design documentation, manufacturing drawings, technical specifications, and engineering calculations.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, testing, quality, and project teams to ensure design feasibility and successful product delivery.
- Provide technical support throughout manufacturing processes, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure transformer designs comply with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and AS/NZS standards.
- Work directly with engineering teams across New Zealand, Australia, and Oceania on global engineering projects.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to transformer performance, cost optimization, manufacturability, and product quality.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables prepared by junior engineers.
- Mentor and guide junior engineering team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Medium Power Transformer Design (mandatory).
- Strong knowledge of transformer theory and electrical design principles.
- Extensive understanding of transformer construction, manufacturing processes, workflows, and transformer testing.
- Experience performing transformer electrical calculations and preparing detailed design documentation.
- Proficient in AutoCAD/CAD 2D and Microsoft Office applications.
- Hands-on experience with Excel VBA and Macros is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and AS/NZS standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers is preferred.
