Job Description -Service Engineer
(Reporting to a Local Discipline Manager for Service Operation department)
Main purpose of the job
To perform repair, inspect and commission Huisman System (cranes, drilling systems, pipe-lay systems etc.) at the client’s premises or at the Huisman locations under supervision of an experienced service engineer
Role & responsibilities:
- Support the Senior/ Service & Commissioning Engineer on site.
- Provide technical expertise and carryout service order assignments from the Service & Commissioning Manager/ Service & Commissioning Coordinator
- Field representative of the company to evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze, repair, test, and return equipment to service as required or instructed by a service order in a safe and effective manner.
- Create daily reports about the performed service tasks and all related issues and send them to the Service Mailbox
- Complete all the required documentation & write reports regarding the work
Knowledge and Experience:
- Candidate must possess at least a Technical Bachelor’s degree (electrical / electronic / computer science is preferred) or similar working and thinking level because of experience.
- Required language(s): English, Mandarin (to be able to liaise with Mandarin speaking clients)
- No work experience required, but could be a plus
Required Skill(s):
- A broad technical interest in electrical, hydraulic (propulsion technology) or Control Technology PLCs and inverters; and basic mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Analytical and systematic approach to problem solving
- Basic understanding of programming and industrial control systems is a plus
- Willing to travel abroad heavily
- Willing to work overtime
- Having a great desire to gain more knowledge and skills
- The ability to adapt quickly to new requirements and know how to prioritize;
- Positive, solution driven, hands on attitude.

Competencies for experienced Engineer
- Candidate must possess the basic HYDRAULIC – fundamental principles and its symbol
- Candidate must be able to read/interpret the Hydraulic Schematic Drawing
- Candidate should be able to interpret the Hydraulic Schematic Drawing to troubleshoot the equipment such as cranes, winches, and hatch cover
- Candidate must possess the basic ELECTRICAL – fundamental principles and its symbol
- Candidate must be able to read/interpret the Electrical Schematic Drawing
- Candidate should be able to interpret the Electrical Schematic Drawing to troubleshoot the equipment, cranes, winches, and hatch cover
- Candidate must be able to understand Electrical Star – Delta control of motor
- Candidate should be understanding and familiar with PLC Programming – Fundamentals
- A candidate must be able to work under pressure and be able to handle work pressure at all times.
- Being able to learn quickly, decide what kind of work he is doing, and be committed to it
- The person must have the mental and physical capability to tackle challenges and finish the task at hand in a positive manner.
- He must be able to convince the vessel engineer, captain, and superintendent of the quality of the work he is performing.
- Ability to work long hours on board vessels and shipyards, as well as travel on short notice.
